Many of my sources, documents and media are located elsewhere and may provide critical context that an Ancestry member might need when browsing my tree.
Sometimes, I plug in names that I’m not 100% sure of as a reminder to myself or for other reasons. How would someone else know that? I could be contributing to the bigger problem of online trees by putting information out there I’m not confident in (yet).
So, I’ve clicked the “Private Tree” button in hopes that it’ll prevent misinformation from making its way to other trees. And if it forces other researchers to contact me for access, even better. I’m happy to grant it, especially if it means I can collaborate with them.
It’s not rude, it's responsible genealogy! And I promise, no more fist shaking.
